When you see or hear the word abundance these days, some things that automatically come to mind are riches, financial freedom, wealth, and plenty of other things that directly or indirectly relate to money—special thanks to the media and lots of marketing about the law of attraction; however, it doesn’t always have to be about money, in fact, underneath it all it’s really nothing about the money, but everything about what that money hopes to bring into someone’s life.
Abundance is the ultimate feeling of security (it’s not security, but it provides the feeling of it). It’s having much more of anything you might need to not just survive, but to be comfortable, and also happy at the same time. So how exactly do you attract abundance into your life?
Well… before I get into that, I’ll go into what you definitely should not do to attract abundance.
You Shouldn’t Cling to Scarcity
Obviously the polar opposite of abundance is scarcity, so the easy answer would be to stay away from it; however, when scarcity is reflecting itself all around you, it may be hard to even imagine a life of abundance let alone live one.
Scenario: Bill just lost his job and the entire family is now living off of his wife’s part-time income. He can no longer pay his monthly debts (let’s say a combined total of about $10k). The money his wife brings in is just enough to cover food costs for his entire family, fuel for transportation, and the utilities. The debt collectors are calling the phone non-stop and none seem to understand that his current life situation isn’t allowing him to pay the bills at the time, and refuses to work with him. If something doesn’t happen right away, Bill knows he may have to file for bankruptcy or possibly face being sued in court.
Of course, the above scenario may not apply to you, but it’s a pretty good example of someone who might have a trouble getting out of the scarcity mindset because not only is this person constantly being reminded and stressed out about things that don’t exactly reflect abundance, but he’s living in scarcity everyday.
At this point, Bill has two options: he can let all his problems get to him, thus succumbing to scarcity, unhappiness, and stress… or he can try his best to stop worrying and focus on the positive side of things—which is obviously easier said than done, but I’ll explain how to do shortly.
What’s in Your Control?
There is undoubtedly a huge portion of whatever scarcity you, or folks like Bill may be experiencing that is completely out of your control, so at least you can take comfort in knowing that there really is nothing you can do about it—and while that may seem like a bad thing right off the bat, it’s really a huge mental advantage that you have. You can let that be your cue to stop worrying about those aspects of your situation, and put your energy towards more productive tasks. Decide what is in your control and start making some positive decisions.
For example, the fact that Bill currently lost his income source and the entire family is living off of his wife’s relatively small source of income is a situation that is out of his control. Those things are said and done so it’s time for Bill to stop worrying about that (or anything that comes along with it such as shame, guilt, etc.) and start assessing what his current options are—which could entail things such as trying his best to establish some kind of income (whether it be find another job, start a business, etc).
Also, the fact that collectors are demanding payments from Bill that he cannot make is also something that is out of his control. The fact of the matter is, since Bill’s life situation changed to the point where he must choose to put the money that he receives towards his family’s well-being, or to pay the debts, Bill’s obviously going to choose to feed his family.
So out of Bill’s control, once again, is the fact that he’ll most likely have to roll with the punches and face any consequences that come with his current situation (potential court summons, not being able to get that new car they were hoping for anytime soon, etc.)—but that’s not even close to being the end of the world so Bill should block out the negative feelings and stress that comes from that uncontrollable situation and stop pouring so much [negative] energy into it.
Bill’s situation is pure example, and likely doesn’t fit your situation exactly, but should clearly illustrate the need to determine exactly what is in your control, what isn’t, and focus on your current options so you can make a sound decision as to what to do next.
A good way to start focusing on the positive side of things is recognizing that you don’t have to worry about the things that are out of your control. Fortunately, those things will play out on their own
The Three G’s of Attracting Abundance
Now that you know you should accept your situation for what it is, and determine what your options are, it’s time to finally start attracting abundance. I’ve determined that the process can be simplified into three different steps, and further simplified by starting them off with the letter “G”, just so you can remember them easier
So without further ado the “three G’s” of attracting abundance are: Give, Be Grateful, and Get Off Your… err.. Let’s just say “Get to it!”.
1. Give, Give, and Give Some More!
Some people don’t exactly understand this one, because from a “common sense” perspective, why would you want to give away if you want more? Well, the truth is, when you give, you are opening your mind up to the abundance mindset. If you had all the money in the world, I’m sure you wouldn’t mind giving plenty of it to needy people… because you are abundant, and your entire being knows it.
When you give, even if you don’t have much to give, you are playing the role of abundance, which will help to align your thoughts, feelings, emotions, and lastly your actions with abundance—which will ultimately bring you closer to it. Having an abundance mindset even before you attract abundance is the best way to speed up the process of attracting it into your life by leaps and bounds.
So if you want to be more financially abundant, give money when you can. If you want a better social life, give more of your time to more people, and so on. Giving can be accomplished in a multitude of different ways, and can come in different forms—but the main point is, just give exactly what you are hoping to get (but don’t expect it, just give freely and you’ll begin attracting more of that same thing into your life as you continue).
2. Be Grateful For Anything and Everything
And next in line is gratitude. If you’ve been to any other self-improvement or personal development website out there, I’m sure you’ve heard it before, but there’s just no getting around it. Gratitude is one of the best ways to get a positive outlook on life, no matter what your situation is. Everyone has something to be grateful for.
Gratitude can be expressed in any way you choose, but in case you’re short of ideas, a good one is to take out a sheet of paper and list 100 things you’re grateful for (or as many up to 100 as you can, but try your best). List anything and everything you can think of. It may take some time and thought, but once you get going you’ll be surprised at just how many things you have to be grateful for—even if you went into it thinking you don’t have much at all (which is definitely not the right mindset to have).
I think you get the picture as far as gratitude goes, but don’t get me wrong, it’s a very important step to achieving abundance that should not be skipped! It’s an extremely easy step at that so there should be no excuse for not taking part in it anyway
A great service that actually reminds you to be grateful everyday is called gratitudelog.com (click to open in a new window). You can think of it as twitter for gratitude—I find it incredibly useful.
3. And Lastly…
This last step is about taking action. So many times the law of attraction is portrayed as one sitting around all day, intending away and believing that the “universe” is going to give them exactly what they want—well, as long as you get your mind right you will get what you want… but only as long as YOU go out and take it!
Unfortunately for those who thought that what they wanted would just magically appear out of thin air, the truth is, taking the right action is a crucial step in manifesting what you want and attracting abundance into your life. Sometimes it does require a lot of courage to take the required actions, but sometimes it doesn’t have to be so bad—gradual steps (that still require courage, but not a huge amount) will usually suffice.
Bill Gets Things Right.
Let’s revisit Bill’s scenario with all the things I mentioned put together:
- Bill realizes what he cannot control, and decides to stop worrying and to stop thinking so much about the uncontrollable factors of his situation altogether. HE decides that the situation he is in just is, and no more negative energy (or at least the bare minimum) is going to be put into the unfortunates of his situation.
- [giving, taking action] Bill decides he wants to attract financial abundance so his family will no longer have to worry about food, his wife can quit her part time job that she hates, and so they can finally afford to move into a safer neighborhood for their kids one day so he decides to learn how to start an online business. He creates his first online product, but instead decides to give it away for free.
- [giving] By giving his first product away for free, Bill gets a huge credibility boost and gets noticed by more established people in his field (his “reward” for deciding to give). This starts Bill off in the right direction to running a successful online business (obviously not the path I’m saying YOU should choose, but starting an online business was something that interested Bill so he decided to go for it).
- [giving, gratitude, taking action] Despite Bill’s seemingly negative situation, he is incredibly thankful for the extra time he has due to the loss of his job and is happy to give more of his time to his family, and helps his wife out more at home with the extra hours he gained from not going to work. He makes sure to take action everyday when it comes to his online business to ensure its continued growth.
I’m obviously a little biased when it comes to starting an online business
but Bill could have just as easily went searching for a job instead—those are just minor, irrelevant details. The point is, Bill decided to stop worrying and direct his attention towards what he wanted, he found something to be grateful about in his situation, he gave of his time (and even his first online product), and he took action everyday.
With consistent effort of this magnitude, Bill will attract abundance into his life in no time!
And the best part about it is, with Bill’s positive attitude, he’s already feeling abundant each day… even if his life and situation doesn’t reflect it externally just yet

@Igor: Thanks a lot! I’m glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for the thumbs up Igor
I couldn’t agree more with most all of your points here. I’ve been able to make some of them a part of my life and still working on others.
Sometimes it takes a while to reverse and clean up your negative karma (bad emotions, thoughts, limiting beliefs, etc.). We’ve been so used to clinging to this stuff for so long that you have to first let go of it before you can replace with the good things mentioned here.
Its very doable as long as you stick with it and don’t quit.
@Kids Bedrooms: Thanks for the great input! It’s true that most of us are unfortunately conditioned to cling onto all the WRONG things, but everything else becomes easier after shedding the “negative karma” that you spoke of. Thanks again for taking the time to visit and comment!
