How to Stop Anxiety Attacks

Email this Article to a Friend

You may have read my previous article on how to stop worrying, which is advice that can be effectively applied by just about anyone, but if you’re a frequent sufferer of panic attacks, the problem may go a little deeper than simply using “mind hacks” to overcome your problem.

This article will describe some effective techniques you can use to learn how to stop anxiety attacks, but is in no way a substitute for professional help that you may need if the problem is serious enough.

For those who think they need a little more than a few “effective techniques” might want to consider looking at this highly acclaimed product that has helped thousands of individuals overcome a problem that, if you’re a sufferer, already know how much it can ultimately detract from your personal development and overall life experience.

What Is An Anxiety Attack?

Just in case you “think” you may experience anxiety attacks, or are unsure but want to know more, let’s get the technicalities out of the way first. Afterall, the best way to start overcoming a problem is to fully understand it first.

While experiencing an attack, you’ll most likely have a sudden shortness of breath accompanied by a rising heart rate, almost as if you’ve just ran a mile. On the emotional side of things, you may experience a combination of extreme fear and/or worry. This usually happens in just a few minutes or less, and generally goes away after about 15-20 minutes. Needless to say, it’s a pretty scary thing and for someone else to see a panic attack, it could easily be interpreted as life threatening.

What causes someone to be susceptible to these types of attacks is an abnormality that nearly 10% of the entire human population possesses, and that is an over-sensitivity to carbon dioxide. For those who have this small abnormality, little changes in carbon dioxide intake throughout the day can either bring on an anxiety attack (especially when coupled with other factors such as stress) or severely increase the chances of having one.

The bad news is, these “little changes” can happen with things as simple as changing your pace of breathing, or holding your breath a split second longer than normal, etc. Would-be anxiety attack sufferers usually experience their first attack after an increased period of stress (due to irregular breathing and the chemicals released in the brain which already cause somewhat of a sensitivity to carbon dioxide), and then begin to experience it infrequently out of the blue.

What You Can Do

Many people with little understanding of why they are experiencing anxiety attacks usually start avoiding the places and situations where their previous attacks occurred, and of course, since those weren’t the primary factors that led to the attacks, their list grows larger and larger over time, severely limiting them from living a fulfilled life… which is obviously something that this blog is against!

Since you now know that attacks, while can be triggered by stress, aren’t primarily caused by it… it’s time to take some measures to actively prevent your attacks from coming on. Below is a list that, while not all-inclusive, serves as a great start to preventing your panic attacks, or severely lowing the frequency at which you experience them:

  • The first step is the “mind hacks” that I mentioned earlier. Read my article on how to stop worrying so much.
  • Take up meditation daily. Not only can this lower your overall stress levels throughout the day, it can help you control your breathing and help you find your “inner peace”. The good news is, you can do this for 15-20 minutes each day and still reap all the amazing benefits.I am currently giving away a free brainwave entrainment audio (12 in fact) that will help your brain get in the perfect “state” for a quick and effective meditation session. More information on the free audio, and a list of meditation benefits can be found here.
  • Are you overloading yourself with responsibilities? Learn to become more organized and increase your productivity so that your many responsibilities in life don’t equal out to unnecessary stress. Read my article I wrote about my personal top 10 productivity hacks
  • Exercising your brain on a regular basis, or in other words, actively pursuing a routine of “becoming smarter” can severely lower your overall stress levels (by helping your brain to manage it better). Read my article on how to become smarter progressively on a daily basis.
  • Stop trying to find happiness (if that’s you), and just go ahead and experience happiness now.
  • Take some time out of each day to “get away from it all” and spend some quality time with yourself or your family. Take a walk, read a book, play a video game, etc. Whatever can take your mind off of the stresses in life (if even just temporarily) can work wonders for you in just 15-30 minutes each day.
  • If fear and lack of courage is what is causing you stress that leads to anxiety attacks, then take some time to work on overcoming your fears.

While I won’t tout the seven things I mentioned above to be the “cure for panic attacks”, it’s definitely a great place to start… especially if you aren’t taking advantage of that advice already (remember, don’t prejudge, just try it out for yourself!). And the best part is, the things above will help you improve your life significantly, even if you aren’t an anxiety attack sufferer.

You Should Look Into This

I mentioned it briefly earlier, but as a reminder, you should definitely look into Panic Away if you are a frequent anxiety attack sufferer. They have a proven track record, a great reputation, and a vast amount of audio testimonials from those who have used their product with success.

Once again, if you feel like anxiety is starting to get the best of you, do yourself a favor and take a look at the Panic Away product to see if you think you can benefit from it.
